In Deuteronomy 32, Moses gives his farewell address, also known as the Song of Moses, to the people of Israel. Moses will not enter the Promised Land, because of an impulsive act that violated God's commands. In his final remarks, Moses says of God, "He is the Rock; his works are perfect, and all his ways are just." (Deuteronomy 32:4, NIV) In Psalm 18:2, David says, "The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer." These two leaders of Israel lived centuries apart and experienced different challenges to their leadership. Moses faced rebellion in the desert, while David dealt with the pursuit of King Saul. Both men must have faced times of doubt and worry. Yet they relied on their Rock--God. When we face difficulties today, such as, unemployment, illness, or betrayal, we too can rely on our Rock who doesn't change. We too can grab ahold of the Rock. As the songwriter said:

When darkness seems to hide His face, I rest on His unchanging grace. In every high and stormy gale, My anchor holds within the veil. His oath, His covenant, His blood, Support me in the whelming flood. When all around my soul gives way, He then is all my Hope and Stay. When He shall come with trumpet sound, Oh may I then in Him be found. Dressed in His righteousness alone, Faultless to stand before the throne.
