2013-08-27 - Learning from Armadillos
About a month ago, our power went off for a couple hours. Thankfully it's
rare for us, but this happened to be in the heat of a tropical Southern Summer
weekend! So naturally, we were eager to find out when it would be fixed,
and make alternative plans, if it would be awhile. We couldn't function normally.
We couldn't fix dinner, couldn't get watch a ballgame with my dad, and so
on.
But meanwhile, while we were consumed with our electrical issues, our armadillos
just continued to forage for their food, and the Cardinals and other birds
just - to use a phrase from the 1970s - "kept on truckin'!" They stayed on
focus, having no idea that anything was amiss. Because for them, it was not!
What wonderful teachers for our spiritual lives! While we must deal responsibly
with stresses and problems that occur in our everyday lives, we should not
let them take our focus off God or our work for Him.
Hebrews 12:1-2 (NASB) Therefore, since we have so great
a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance
and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the
race that is set before us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the [b]author and
perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising
the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
We should "keep on truckin'" in our Christian walk.
Let's try to be spiritual armadillos!
