1 Corinthians 2:9 "But as it is written: "Eye has not
seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man, the things which
God has prepared for those who love Him." (NKJV)
There is a song called Imagine that has been performed by numerous
bands and artists that talks about this idea. I have images in my mind of
amazing places like the throne room in Heaven, and the twelve foundation
stones of the New Jerusalem throwing bands of color through the transparent
golden streets. But as utterly fantastic as the imagination can reach God
promises us more - far more.
"Nor has it entered into the heart of man ...",
with some artists, sculptors and musicians in history that have a heart for
beauty, for all the sunrises and sunsets that God has painted across the
sky, and the breath-taking landscapes and clear nights when the heavens are
strewn with stars, or an enormous comet passing by, all of these things together
will be downpayments on what waits for those of us who have placed our trust
in Christ Jesus.
I remember about fifteen years ago visiting friends who lived our and away
from a lot of city light. My friend said we should go out and sit on the
back deck for a while and look at the comet passing earth. It was suppose
to be spectacular. I had gone out on a few occasions to see it at home. It
was clearly visible, but it failed to capture spectacular for me. But I agreed
to go out an sit with him for a while. We looked up and found it. With the
darker night sky it was much clearer and somewhat larger. The difference
struck me how we were hiding God's handiwork with our city lights. We sat
and talked for about 30 more minutes about this and that. As our eyes adjusted
to the night my friend suggested we look again.
I was stunned speechless.
The comet filled the entire night sky from the horizon to the zenith. There
was no moon that night. The corona around the head and the streaming tail
were more impressive than I would have thought possible. I remember saying
something like, "What are we doing that we hide these things from ourselves?"
That may be the most staggering moment in my life and it will be completely
outdone the moment Heaven fills my eyes. Think back to the time when you
were stopped utterly speechless. Bring back to mind as much as you are able.
Then know that is a fraction of what awaits us.
Consider that and sit at Jesus' feet. Selah.
Grace & Peace,
Mike
