2013-06-17 - What Would Gaius Say?
So when I come, I will call attention to what he is doing, spreading malicious nonsense about us. Not satisfied with that, he even refuses to welcome other believers. He also stops those who want to do so, and puts them out of the church. (3 John 1:10)
I am happy to help out a teacher or missionary who passes through. According to disciple John, Diotrephes doesn't see things the same way. John says he can provide specific examples of how Diotrephes is spreading lies and does not welcome God's workers like himself, when they are in the area. John was concerned that I would follow Diotrephes' pattern of behavior, by spreading false statements and not helping God's people. John has no need to worry.
I won't follow in Diotrephes' footsteps. I am more grounded than that, and would not think to assassinate a person's character the way Diotrephes supposedly does. John hopes to come soon and talk face-to-face. How I look forward to his visit.
Lord, Thank You that You have given me friends who want what is best for me. May I be a true friend to them, in return. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
