2013-05-25 - Roots
Yesterday afternoon, the electrical power suddenly went off at our house.
A tree up the road had fallen across the power lines and pulled them down.
The tree wasn't dead but because of our "exceptional drought" over the last
couple years, it had a poor root base. A moderate wind blew it over, pulling
it up by the roots.
Our lives are similar to the tree. How firmly are we grounded? How deep are
our roots? As Christians, we should be firmly rooted in God's Word. Our
foundation is anchored to our faith in Jesus and His promises. When troubles,
like winds, come into our lives, we can stand firm in our beliefs. How well
are you rooted? When we have strong roots, we can better weather the storms
of life.
Psalm 1:3 "He is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever
he does prospers." (NIV)
