2013-05-20 - What Would Legion
Say?
Mark
5:1-20
But Jesus said, "No, go home to your family, and tell
them everything the Lord has done for you and how merciful he has been."
(Mark 5:19 NLT)
I wanted a better life for myself. I lived alone in a tomb. I was so out
of control, chains didn't even hold me down. Day and night I would scream
and cut myself with stones. One day, I saw a man in the distance and ran
up to him and bowed, screaming at Jesus not to torture me. It wasn't me,
per se, talking but Legion, the group of demons, which had taken over my
body and life.
I begged Jesus to send the demons into a herd of pigs feeding nearby. Jesus
was so calm and full of control; He was a force to be reckoned with. Legion
left me and found a home in the pigs, which rushed over a steep water bank
and drowned. The eyewitnesses wanted Jesus to leave Gerasenes, while I wanted
to show my deepest gratitude to Jesus.
I was a new person, in control of what I said and did. Now I wasn't going
to have to live in seclusion. I begged Jesus if I could go with Him. I did
not want to stay in Gerasenes; I did not want any connection to my former
self.
I would have loved to hang out with Jesus, but the Lord instructed me to
go home and share the good news about my miracle. I did as Jesus suggested,
and everyone I told was amazed.
Lord, It is a great feeling, to possess qualities I
like about myself. Help others to know their true value and worth. Let people
look for and find their significance in You. In Jesus' name I pray,
Amen.
