2013-05-06 - What Would the Prophet Huldah Say?
Because your heart was responsive, and you humbled yourself before God when you heard what he spoke against this place and its people, and because you humbled yourself before me and tore your robes and wept in my presence, I have heard you, declares the LORD. (2 Chronicles 34:27)
For many years it has been unheard of for a king to seek Godly counsel. Thankfully, King Josiah has finally changed that - about time too. The king asked me for holy advice and wisdom. God spoke very clearly to me on the king's behalf. God would destroy Judah, for the city's people did not have a high regard for Him as Lord of Lords.
How can people turn their back on a God who has done great things for them? Could they possibly expect to lead foolish and evil lifestyles and get away with it? It would be different if the people were ignorant or remorseful, but there is no evidence of either.
King Josiah has shown humility and regret for the people's behavior, and because of this, God will spare Judah its awful fate until Josiah's death. The king would not have to witness the destruction of his people and land. The people changed their attitude and actions, and honored the Lord, as long as King Josiah was alive that is.
Lord, Fill me with purpose. If there is anything standing in my way of following Jesus, may I be willing to give these things up. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
