2013-04-27 - Fanning the
Flame
"Therefore, I remind you to keep ablaze the gift of God
that is in you
" 2 Timothy 1:6 (NIV)
Paul's second letter to Timothy was sent from a Roman prison, to a young
pastor struggling with false teachers in a small church in Ephesus. Paul
was concerned that Timothy might become discouraged, and that his faith may
suffer as a result. Paul wrote these words to encourage Timothy to keep the
fire of his faith burning. In fact, Timothy was to fan the flames and keep
his faith "ablaze."
Today we, too, sometimes feel our faith flickering. We face opposition and
discouragement. Our beliefs are questioned and mocked. Our lives are full
of trials and temptations. When we encounter these situations, we can remember
Paul's advice to Timothy. We need to keep our faith ablaze, by studying God's
word, attending church, praying, and worshipping God. Keep your blaze burning.
