2013-03-31 - What Would Jesus
Say?
Resurrection Sunday 2013
Matthew 27:27-31, 54-60, 28:5-7
After they had mocked him, they took off the robe and
put his clothes on him. Then they led him away to crucify him.
(Matthew 27:31)
I was treated like a common criminal sentenced to die. I was forced to wear
a crown of thorns. The thorns themselves were like knives, cutting into my
scalp.
If that wasn't enough, I was spit on and beaten. I withstood the pain and
mocking for mankind. Throughout the humiliation, I did not say a word. As
Son of the Most High, I could easily put them in their place, but I rose
above. I became a willing sacrifice, to bring redemption to Earth.
After I breathed my last, an earthquake shook. Those guarding me at my
crucifixion, witnessed how strong and capable the power of God is. It was
then they proclaimed I was the Son of God.
Joseph from Arimathea wrapped my body in linen cloth and placed me in an
unused tomb by the side of a hill. A large stone covered the entrance. That
rock did not limit me. I did not stay in grave garments.
I had to finish God's plan and came back to Earth for a time, to show God
is true to His word. For I had said earlier, "The Son
of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men. They will kill him,
and after three days, he will rise." (Mark 9:31 NIV) The people needed
to see the substance behind my words, and to believe that God loved them
enough to sacrifice my life for theirs.
Lord, Thank You for sending Your Son to die in my place.
Because of Jesus' death on the cross, You look at me and don't see any lurking
sin. It is erased from Your memory. I can live freely without condemnation.
Alleluia! In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
