2013-03-25 - What Would Nicodemus Say?
Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit." (John 3:5)
Jesus said that knowing God sent Him to Earth wasn't enough. I needed to be born again before entering the kingdom of God.
Born again? What kind of phrase was that? How could a grown man return to his mother's womb and become born again? There may be aspects of my life I would like to change, but not enough to start over as a child. Why must a person return to his youth, to experience Heaven?
Jesus explained the concept further. Jesus wasn't talking literally - but figuratively. It was not a natural birth but a spiritual one, a renewal. He talked about the Holy Spirit and eternal life, topics I was not very familiar with, nor did I understand fully.
The Holy Spirit is the key to this new life. Jesus said a startling revelation. He would be on a pole and then return to Heaven. Another statement boggled my mind-Jesus' presence was not for condemnation but salvation. To Jesus, this was basic stuff; to me, it was hard to conceive. I wanted to understand, I did not want to be left behind. It all sounded too good to be true.
Lord, Life is full of decisions on a large or minimal scale. No matter what the decision, a remedy has to be made. The pressure is lifted, and the decision-making process can become easier, when I know the right process to follow: time spent with You. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
