[CF Devotionals] 2013-02-11 - What Would Lot's Youngest Daughter Say?

Genesis 19:12-38

The older daughter had a son, and she named him Moab; he is the father of the Moabites of today. The younger daughter also had a son, and she named him Ben-Ammi; he is the father of the Ammonites of today.(Genesis 19:37-38)

It was a totally disgusting idea, and I wish my older sister never thought of it. She rationalized that since there were no men around for us to marry, and that our father isn't getting any younger, we should have a baby - to not end our family line.

She devised a plan to get him intoxicated (so he would not know what was happening), and then we would lie with him. Why didn't our husbands take our father's words seriously and leave Sodom when we did? The men's stubbornness cost them their lives, and helped put us in this awful situation.

My sister went through with the plan and wanted me to do the same. We both got pregnant and had sons. I named mine Ben-Ammi, and my sister's son was named Moab.

Once survival takes over, you have to push your feelings aside. I wish I did not have to take control, but what else can I do? I wish God had told me what to do; then life would be simpler.Surely there was a better way to keep the ancestral line alive.

Lord, I know You are there. Have You already spoken, and I just missed Your voice? I am not totally at peace with the decision I made - and need Your insight. Please don't abandon me, as You are all I have.In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
