2012-03-05 - What Would a Herdsman Say?
A large herd of pigs was feeding on the nearby hillside. The demons begged Jesus, "Send us among the pigs; allow us to go into them." (Mark 5:11-12 NIV)
It was another grueling day, making sure the pigs stayed together and did not get lost. It was another day surrounded by noisy, dirty and stubborn animals. This all changed, the moment Jesus arrived. I wondered why Jesus was nearby, perhaps to see the strange man Legion. Everyone called him Legion, for he was overtaken with hordes of demons.
I was just a hard-working man, not privy to what Jesus and Legion talked about; it was hard to hear. All I knew was that as soon as Jesus spoke, Legion became calm, and the pigs scurried and fell down the bank to their deaths. What a mess, 2,000 pigs. Why me? I was afraid I would get blamed.
Everything was fine until Jesus came around. It is terrific for Legion; he is not possessed anymore. I was an innocent bystander. I had no idea how to explain what happened to the pigs. Did Jesus think of me in any of this?
Lord, I want to master the struggles and bondages in my life. What do I need to do to understand Your ways? In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
