2011-10-31 - What Would Nathaniel
Say?
"Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?" Nathanael
asked. "Come and see," said Philip. (John 1:46)
Philip made it a point to come find me and tell me about discovering the
Messiah called Jesus, son of Joseph of Nazareth. My first thought, I said
out loud, focusing on Jesus' heritage and not the man. I knew it wasn't a
nice or fair statement to make, but I couldn't take it back. I was actually
surprised Jesus the Messiah was from Nazareth, as I had not heard many favorable
things about the place; still that doesn't excuse my actions for saying something
that was not too kind, very biased.
Before I ever spoke to this man Jesus, He claimed to know about me. He declared
I was an honest man and a true son of Israel. If only He heard what I said
about Him, I thought. I couldn't just accept the compliment. I had to press
Jesus and find out how He knew so much about me. Jesus said He noticed me
before Philip brought me over. Jesus told me this was only the beginning
of the miracles I would encounter. There was never a truer statement. The
Messiah approved of me, blunders and all.
Lord, Help me not to jump to conclusions, just as You
don't prejudge me. In Jesus' name I pray,Amen.
