2011-10-24 - What Would Joel
Say?
Joel
2:21-32
You will have plenty to eat, until you are full, and
you will praise the name of the LORD your God, who has worked wonders for
you; never again will my people be shamed. (Joel 2:26)
I sought to encourage the people of Jerusalem. I wanted them to start rejoicing
in God instead of cursing Him. Notice the forgiving rain He sends which brings
the abundant crops. This is the promise of God. The time of disaster is over,
declares the Lord. We will start to see God in our land. Not only will our
land and crops recover, but also our spirits will rebound. God will give
people the gift of prophesy in dreams and visions. In order to enjoy this
bounty, we must call on His name.
People who take too much stock in their own self won't receive God's blessing.
Look around and be glad. The grass is green, food for the animals is plentiful,
and fruits are ripe on trees. God will repay our lackluster years with abundance,
satisfaction, and He will send His army for protection. We will not have
to worry about our next meal. God has given His people a reason to praise
His name. Not only will the Earth be prosperous; so will the people.
Anyone who calls on God's name will be delivered. God's spirit will be poured
out on His people. Old men will dream dreams, young men will see visions,
and sons and daughters will prophesy. If there was any doubt before, this
will bring evidence that there is a God.
Lord, Feelings consume me. I can't seem to stop them
from taking hold of me, but through faith I know You are still there. Even
in times of adversity, You are here. How grateful I am that these hardships
don't last long. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
