2011-10-18 - What Color Is Your Smiley Face©?
1 Samuel 16:7 Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB) But the LORD said to
Samuel, "Do not look at his appearance or his stature, because I have rejected
him. Man does not see what the LORD sees, for man sees what is visible, but the
LORD sees the heart."
When sorting through more "stuff" that my late mother had saved through the
years, we found a treasure - my old smiley-face purse. It was pretty dusty, of
course, and I didn't know if it was salvageable. I decided to leave it in the
capable hands of our dry cleaner; I knew that if anyone could revitalize it, he
could. The face was no longer yellow, but rather a dull chartreuse. And as we
started to take it into the dry cleaner, Richard lifted up the dull-looking
smiley face on the front, and we were stunned to see the neon yellow backside of
the face! We had no idea there was so much potential, till we uncovered it. It
came back to us - not in mint condition - but when the dust came off, some of
its potential had been uncovered, and it was yellow again.
Aren't we the same way? We may look at others, or people may look at us
sometimes, and think - or even say - that we are not worth anything, won't
amount to anything, and sometimes we think that about ourselves, or about
familiy members. But thankfully, when God looks at us, He doesn't see us only as
we are, but as we can be, and will be if we allow Him to work in our lives. He
sees our potential. God has given every single one of us spiritual gifts, and He
can use us to make a difference in our worlds, if we are willing. Let's ask Him
today, to help us develop (or continue developing) our God-given potential.
