2011-02-25 - Simple Words ~ Great Calls
Part 5
Be With Him
Lastly in verse 24, Jesus prays, "Father, I will that
they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am.". He wants
us to be with him. What a blessing that will be - to one day be with him.
There's a story I read not long ago of a happy Christian who met an Irish
peddler and exclaimed, "It's a grand thing to be saved." "Ah, it is, but
I know something better than that," came the peddler's reply. "Better than
being saved? What can you possibly know that is better than that?" The wise
Irish replied, "The friendship of the Man who has saved me!"
Jesus Christ came from heaven to earth that we might come to him. He went
to a hillside outside Jerusalem with a cross on his back for us so that we
could go to other places with his words in our hearts for him. He was, is,
and always will be so that we might be all he'd have us to be.
Coming, going, being - in these calls, he's not asking us to do anything
he isn't himself doing. He tells us in John 14:3 , "And
if I GO and prepare a place for you (and he is), I will COME again (and he
will), and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may BE
also." His greatest wish to be is simply to be together.
Closing
In closing, consider 1 Corinthians 13:13 . And now these three remain: faith,
hope and love. [We come in faith , go with hope, and be or rather are by
love] But the greatest of these is love.
Come - Go - Be
Simple words - Great callings: how will you respond to each? Will you come
to him for salvation and for all your needs? Will you go each day of your
life enjoying what he gives and sharing it with others? Will you be his love
- a light in a dark world? Let's pray.
Jesus Lord, you came for me and yet there are times
I don't come to you for my needs. I look to myself and stubbornly refuse
your aid and counsel. Forgive me of arrogance and pride. Strengthen me to
go each day in life and see your blessings and peace in everyday things.
Help me to be a better witness and example. Fill me that sin would have no
place in which to dwell - no nook, no cranny, no secret hidden place. I long
for the day that we can be together face to face but until that awesome day
God I ask that you just let me be - let me be your love, let me be healed
of sin and illness, let me be an agent of unity. I love you Lord and it's
in your name that I lay these requests before you. Amen
