2011-02-21 - What Would Ahab
Say?
What Would They Say Series #9
1
Kings 21:17-29
Ahab said to Elijah, "So you have found me, my enemy!"
"I have found you,"he answered, "because you have sold yourself to do evil
in the eyes of the LORD." (1 Kings 21:20)
Elijah is always in my business, focusing on my faults, and none of the things
I do right. This time he put a curse on me. Why isn't he going after Jezebel?
It was her idea to have Naboth killed. I just wanted a garden; I didn't plan
to take his life. You try saying no to her. Once my wife has an idea in her
head, that's it. Elijah continued blasting me, and said my family would be
destroyed, and great harm would come to my wife and me. I don't want this
calamity. I did not realize the Lord would get so upset that we worshiped
other idols - and the acts He deemed wicked.
After Elijah revealed my future fate, I mourned and didn't eat. I took off
my royal clothing and replaced them for rags. Finally I stopped grieving,
and started making amends. I admit it was a complete turnaround from the
previous way I was living. I didn't want the horror awaiting me. Would you?
I humbled myself before God, for I didn't want things to end like Elijah
said. God was so impressed with my genuine change of heart, that my family
wasn't destroyed in my lifetime. Woe to my family, especially my precious
wife. The disastrous death awaiting her. Had I any idea this would be the
outcome. Now all I can hope for is that my son and wife mend their ways,
to avoid the fate promised them. I never realized how much power the Lord
has.
Lord, Show me the steps I need to take to better myself.
In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
