God
Missing Our Potential
Exodus
4:10-17
"Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what
to say." (Exodus 4:12)
God does not see us as we see ourselves. Now this may not be a new concept,
but it is one I often fail to consider. God, our creator, knows everything
about us. What we say, what we do, what we want to say, what we would like
to do, and yet He loves us and wants a relationship with us. He does not
leave us or forsake us, even when we think He has every right to. What a
wonderful Dad to have, right?
Moses failed to see his full potential, like some of us do. Perhaps he lacked
self-confidence. God told Moses he would lead the people out of Egypt, and
Moses told God he was not able to do it. Moses couldn't see himself talking
to Egypt's leader and telling the ruler that the people would be leaving
the country. Moses claimed he wasn't eloquent enough. Didn't he have it
backwards? You don't tell your creator and Father; sorry I don't have it
in me. God knew the best person for the task, and who was Moses to second-guess
God?
Some people could say that move was cocky or bold. I tend to believe Moses
was just being careful. He did not see the great abilities in himself to
achieve this challenge. God let Moses know this wasn't a fluke. God knew
what He was doing, and that Moses was the man for the job. None of God's
words or deeds convinced Moses, so he asked God to pick someone else as the
mouthpiece. So God picked Moses' brother Aaron. Brother and brother would
be together to accomplish God's magnificent goal, to free the enslaved people
in Egypt.
Perhaps you feel God telling you to step out in faith, and the unknown is
keeping you from fully following the Lord. I pray when you find yourself
in this situation, you will see your hidden talents; the talents God and
others see.
Lord, Help me to find my unseen talents. Don't let a
lack of self-confidence deter me from achieving my goals. In Jesus' name
I pray, Amen.
