2010-09-06 - The Benefits of Good
Manners
Luke 17:11-19
Jesus asked, "Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the
other nine?" (Luke 17:17)
Ten lepers took it upon themselves to get Jesus' attention. They knew society
did not think too highly of lepers, so they sought the Lord from a distance.
They asked Jesus to have pity on them, and He told the men to go to a priest
and show him that they were healed. None of the sick men looked down at their
skin, to check what Jesus said was accurate, that they were healed of the
dreadful skin disease. Instead, they took Jesus at His word, and left to
tell a priest they were made clean.
"Thank you" is not a philosophical phrase. It is more polite and respectful.
No doubt a phrase Jesus heard often, look at all the healings He did. One
of the ten had to thank Jesus for healing him. It did not matter what the
other nine men were doing; he was responsible for his actions. It seems this
healed man wanted Jesus to know His words of health and restorations weren't
said in vain. He went back and told Jesus he was cleansed. The disease was
gone!
Lord, I never tire of singing Your praises. Your presence
and power are awe-inspiring. May my life be an example how You answer prayer.
In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
How do you get Jesus' attention?
