[CF Devotionals] 2010-04-27 - Looking for Home

I recently found out that one of my neighbors, on our street, has sold her horses. Considering that I drive by her pasture every time I’m on the way home from work, plus the fact that I’m an animal lover, one would think I had noticed. But I didn’t have a clue. While I thoroughly enjoy my work, after a day of work and errands, I can’t wait to get home to my family and our time together. By the time I get that close to our house, I’m simply focused on “looking for home.”

That’s how we should be in our Christian walk, as well. Sometimes we get so distracted by the things “along our roads,” that we fail to focus on our ultimate goal, being good citizens of Heaven. Now there is nothing inherently wrong with many of our sideline interests; in fact, many are from God Himself: Families, churches, friends, work, even hobbies and the like. But we would do well to always remember that our primary focus should be on God’s Kingdom. We should always be “looking for Home.”

Colossians 3:1 (NIV) Since then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.

Hebrews 13:14 (NIV) For here we do not have an enduring city, but we are looking for the city that is to come.
