[CF Devotionals] 2009-12-26 - Christ as King

Facets of Christ ~ Part 3

Romans 11:36, “For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen.”

We have looked at Christ as both Prophet and Priest, but today I hope to focus on Christ as the center of all. The Lamb of God is the center of all things in Heaven and on Earth. This truth can be seen most clearly in looking at the book of Revelation. Where do you meet God? We go to Christ. Where do we find the center of fellowship among all believers? We go to Christ. He is the center of all. If we look upon Jesus only as God, then we cannot hope to have access to Him. Some even might hope to get to God by Christ viewed only as deity, but it would show they have an inadequate view of God’s majesty, holiness, and glory. If we look upon Jesus only as a man who once lived on Earth, then He cannot be the Savior that He is. He cannot have made atonement for our sin. He must be God and man. When we see Him as this, we can begin to understand why Jesus is the center of everything.

We have to look at all things through the lens of Christ-centeredness. When the Father looks upon Christ, He says, “Thou art My beloved Son, in Thee I am well-pleased,” Luke 3:22. The Father delights in the Son. Thus the Father also delights in those who the Son has redeemed by His blood. In the book of Revelation, we see all of Heaven honoring the Lamb of God. All the angels, all the redeemed, all the created hosts glorify the Lamb that was slain. We know that Jesus Christ is the center of all the saints while they are on Earth. “He is Lord, He has risen from the dead, and He is Lord.” Many sing that line, or lines like it, frequently in worship. Jesus Christ is the Lord of those who call themselves believers on Earth. He is the focus of all the attention of the redeemed while they live. He is the focus of all of Heaven even now. Jesus is the center of all worship.

This is because He is King. All the purposes of God run along the course that glorify the Son. Are you a child of God? Then you must know that all things are working to the end that you will one day be glorified with Jesus in Heaven. Even the things that seem difficult in our lives are such things which are being used to prepare us to make more of Christ, while being prepared to be with Him. We can consider Job as an example of this in Scripture. Things did not seem to be going well with him, but what was really going on? Job was being prepared to know God better, and to experience more tender blessings. Jesus stands at the center of all. He is king over all. His name has been engraved on the hearts of all who own Him as their Lord, and the more we know of Christ, the more we know of eternal life.

We must know Christ as our king now, and we will know Him as the king in eternity. “For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet,” 1 Corinthians 15:25. The center of all things, even time itself, is found only in Christ, and if we do not understand it now…one day we will.

Soli Deo Gloria,
