2009-12-21 - Anna: No Tears Only Praise
Leviticus 12:6-8, Luke 2:36-39
Coming up to them at that very moment, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem. Luke 2:38 (NIV)
Life for Anna was different than she had envisioned. She probably didn't plan to be married only seven years, and spend a majority of her life a widow and childless.
How often do we think something will happen a certain way and then the outcome is not at all what we anticipated? That has happened to me more times than I care to admit. I tend to view life through mortal and human eyes while the Lord is all knowing and all-powerful.
As a prophetess, Anna had a close relationship with the Lord. She was totally committed to God and spent more time at the Lord's house than her own. God handpicked Anna to witness about Jesus. She was in the temple when Mary and Joseph presented baby Jesus. Anna came up to the new parents. She praised God and talked about the redemption Jesus would bring.
Anna's life had meaning and value. Even though life didn't turn out as Anna expected, God did not forget her and she still was fulfilled.
Lord, Let me put my confidence where it belongs, in You. Forgive me when I have tried to plan and anticipate how things should be. I gladly give up the driver's seat and watch how You allow Your plan to be fulfilled in my life. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
