2009-07-06 - How Are You? Really?
Sorting through some old files the other day, I came across a poem I wrote for a Summer writing program in elementary school. The poem was about how much I liked the word "ok". I still am fond of the word, and use it in my conversations, particularly if someone asks me how I am.
The fact is that things are better than ok. For Psalm 32:8 says God is with me. "I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you." His presence should be enough to encourage me that everything will turn out all right in the end. I just have to hang on and continue to believe. (Habakkuk 1:5)
How do you find this peace? For me, it is in visiting the ocean. It is the one place where fear and worry cease to enter my mind. I love to watch the waves crash upon the rocks, and gently reach the sand, ticking my bare feet. It is then that a smile forms on my face. I never tire of watching the beauty and serenity God created.
Lord, show me to rest in the now, even when things aren't going my way and I am faced with obstacles and roadblocks. Let me rely on Your sovereign strength instead of my own. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
