2009-06-03 - The Bent Woman
Luke 13:11-17
When Jesus saw her, he called her forward and said to her,
"Woman, you are set free from your infirmity." (Luke
13:12)
Jesus can't be serious. He wants me to go up there? In front of everyone?
I just got settled. People don't want to wait for me to reach the front,
and I don't want to make a scene.
There was a woman in the Bible who walked a little differently than others.
It had been a way of life for so long, that she got used to people's stares,
snickers, and sympathetic glances. This woman had to walk with her head low
and back bent, slouching over for 18 long years.
Out of all the people in the congregation Jesus chose to single this lady
out. She didn't wait, and walked up front. When she reached Him, Jesus told
her, she was released from her infirmity - and instantly she could walk straight.
Finally, she was no longer confined and could move freely without any pain.
This woman didn't need to tell Jesus about herself. He already knew and liked
her anyway. The woman was a walking miracle, no longer a crippled woman.
Everything looked different. In an instant, Jesus took her concern away.
It took little effort for Him, but great effort for this woman to walk up
to Him.
Lord, Thank You for being my healer. I praise Your name,
my personal savior. In Jesus' name, I rejoice in all that You have done for
me. Amen.
