2009-01-23 - Our Diversity
As Christians, we share a direction that we all walk and we are unified in the important things but we each take different paths along the way. It is a huge error to mistake conformity for unity. As Christ's body, we are a diverse people working toward a common goal.
Ephesians 4:7-16 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.
We are united in purpose but divided in execution by the gifts he gives us. The goal of a software company is to make a profit from its products. To make good on this goal, people from many departments must work together. Designers must figure out what the program should do. Developers must make it do the required tasks. Marketing then builds interest. A sales team then turns that interest into orders. Distribution fills and ships those orders. Lastly, accounting collects money, pays the bills, and pays all of the employees. Each person or group has their piece of the greater picture. In many companies walls of resentment grow where each department thinks they are the end all be all but that is not true it takes everyone working together to achieve the goal.
As believers, we must work to tear down barriers between those who are different from us and work in other areas of God's kingdom. We need to look at the big picture and realize that God allows each of us to play a role in his plan.
We are many but we are one.
