2008-12-15 - What Are You Grateful For?
Weeks ago, we celebrated Thanksgiving. A day to go off our diets, prepare
for shopping sales, to watch parades and sporting events - and oh yes, to
give thanks for all our blessings.
One thing I am thankful for is knowing the Lord. There are still many of
His qualities that baffle and amaze me, but I am grateful for His presence
and guidance as I plod along this life.
The prophet Nahum paints a picture of God as a supreme and emotional being.
Nahum's Old Testament book may be small, but its first seven verses describe
several revealing attributes that the Lord possesses.
-
The Lord seeks loyalty. (verse 2)
-
God is slow to anger. (verse 3)
-
God is powerful. (verse 3)
-
Nature obeys Him. (verses 3b-5)
-
He is a refuge in times of trouble. (verse 7)
-
The Lord cares for those who trust in Him. (verse 7)
Father, Show me if I possess any selfish characteristics,
because I want to be more like You. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
