2008-09-09 - IHFHBOH Explained
Several have asked what IHFHBOH means. So I thought I'd take the time to
explain it again.
I started writing devotionals several years ago and wanted a cool way to
sign off at the end of them. Other people had used things like "Your
Brother/Sister In Christ (YBIC,YSIC)" or "In Christ" or whatever and I wanted
one that was uniquely my own so I thought long and hard - a little too long
and hard - and came up with a very long one. I got sick of writing it all
out so I acronym'ed it as IHFHBOH. I went from using it just for devotionals
to using it all the time as a sign off because it reminds me of whom I am
supposed to live my life for - Jesus. IHFHBOH stands for "In Him, For
Him, Because of Him".
In Him (Jesus) - my life found meaning and purpose. I have tried many paths
in my life but was not ultimately satisfied by liquor, sex, drugs, cars,
or money but Jesus satisfies me. I can't explain it without trivializing
it but to me we all have holes in our lives and we try to fit things in to
it like a jigsaw puzzle but there is always a God-shaped piece that no one
else can fill.
For Him (Jesus again) - he saved me. Not just from hell and death but from
a lot of other crap too. I can't ever fully pay him back but I do what I
can for him. I don't have to buy or earn my salvation. It's like with love.
You want to do stuff for people you love just because you love them and they
love you, right?
Lastly - Because of Him (I bet you can figure out that the him is Jesus again.)
Like I said I went down a lot of bad paths in my life and were it not for
Jesus pulling me out of the mess I made I wouldn't be who I am today. He
didn't do it because of who I am but because of who he is. Jesus loves me
just because he wants to.
And that's what IHFHBOH means. I pray that my life is IHFHBOH. If you are
a Christian I pray that your life will be lived IHFHBOH as well. And if you
don't know Jesus personally I hope that you can see how fulfilling an IHFHBOH
life can be and that today you will give your heart to him.
