2008-07-29 - Best Friends
How would you define a best friend? For me, it's simple; a best friend is
the person you would call at three in the morning if you were in trouble.
I have several such friends scattered across the Southeastern United States.
Due to distances of an hour or more, none could come help me in person with
a problem but I know several of them would still be okay with me calling
them and praying for me over a concern.
In the only epistle to bear his name, James writes, "Is
anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Therefore confess your sins to
each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer
of a righteous person is powerful and effective. " (James 5:13-16 TNIV)
We all need friends who will pray with us over our troubles. We all need
at least one person we can turn to. Yes, Jesus is there all the time and
he will listen to you but it is still good to have a person you can go to
as well. There's just something special about talking through a situation
wit ha trusted friend.
If you don't have a 3-in-the-morning buddy, pray and ask God to send one
into your life. It is rare that you may need them but when you do they are
invaluable.
