2008-05-05 - Noah: Hard Working
Man
Through faith Noah was chosen as an example for all mankind. (Genesis 6-9:17,
Hebrews 11:7, 13-16)
It was by faith that Noah built a large boat to save his family from the
flood. He obeyed God, who warned him about things that had never happened
before. "By his faith, Noah condemned the rest of the
world, and he received the righteousness that comes by faith." (Hebrews 11:7
NLV)
The meaning of Noah's first name means rest, although I doubt he had much
rest building an ark to hold his family and many, many animals. God told
Noah His plans of destroying the earth due to man's wicked ways, but He would
keep Noah and his family of seven alive. That was enough for Noah, and he
started working immediately. It can be enough for us to know we cannot quit
on God. Even if we do not have all the answers, we should continue to persevere.
How often do we feel God telling us to do something, and then we hesitate,
and try everything to change the Lord's mind? Noah didn't ask for proof of
the upcoming events God spoke of; he did what God commanded. He showed tremendous
strength and faith in the face of a new and life-altering experience.
At one point in our life, whether it has been years, months, or weeks, we
have to brush up on our decision-making skills, and decide if there is room
in our lives to trust God. No matter the circumstances, no matter why we
need someone in our corner, choosing God as a heavenly Father is always an
option. No matter how we've treated the Lord, who knows us at our best and
worst, He is there for us. God doesn't want us because He is bored, or for
vanity sake. He will take us under His wing, as He did for Noah.
Lord, I accept and wait excitedly for Your kindness
to come upon my family and me. If there's anything getting in the way of
Your miracle-power working in my life, please tell me. In Jesus' name I pray,
Amen.
