2007-09-18 - Where Do We Go From
Here?
The people of Judah were at their wit's end when the combined army of three
peoples was heading towards Judah. They went to the temple in mass and prayed.
The king led them in this time of prayer. Their collective prayer closed
with this remark: "We have no power to face this vast
army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon
you." (2 Chronicles 20:12b NIV)
Have you ever felt this way? God I have really gotten into a mess. I am sorry.
I need your help. In these times that we look to God, he will come through
for us. That is not to say that we can escape all sin and sorrows unscathed
but it is to say that God is always just and faithful to forgive us and restore
us to himself if we return our gaze to him with a truly penitent heart. David
cried, "Mine eyes are ever toward the LORD; for he shall
pluck my feet out of the net." (Psalms 25:15) The Psalmist also wrote,
"But mine eyes are unto thee, O GOD the Lord: in thee
is my trust; leave not my soul destitute." (Psalms 141:8)
God will let us get ourselves into a corner and just sit there patiently
waiting for us to quit looking around at what we can do and look up for what
he alone can do. Our God is a great and mighty God. He can do amazing and
glorious things if we but turn to him. But like Peter on the Sea of Galilee,
we often take our eyes off him and look at the world of troubles around us.
We get ourselves into stormy waters and panic. Nevertheless, when we look
up he will be there to save us.
God I too stand before you clueless. I have the combined armies of Satan,
the world, and my own flesh fighting against me. It is a battle I cannot
win on my own. I don't know what to do but my eyes are fixed on you. I trust
you for the victory. I claim the battle of temptation this today for your
honor and glory. I make a covenant with my eyes not to look on anything but
that which is pure and holy coming from you. Amen
What about you? What do you need to take your eyes off of in order to place
them on God? Bring your situation to him and look to him for your strength,
healing, and protection
