2007-01-31 - By the Waters
Jeremiah 17:7-8 Blessed is the man that trusteth in the
LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. 8 For he shall be as a tree
planted by the waters, and that preadeth out her roots by the river, and
shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not
be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding
fruit.
It is good to trust in the Lord. It is good to have our hope resting on the
eternal Rock of Ages. It is good but it is not easy.
Read these verses carefully. It does not say the tree has an easy life. It
does say the tree endures heat and drought. Nevertheless, in those rough
times the tree still shoots out green leaves and fruit. It survives the hard
times.
God does not promise us an easy sheltered life he only promises his presence.
He promises to be the river that will sustain us in the hard times. We must
stretch forth our roots and plant them deep in Him that the Living Water
may enter in and refresh us in the heat waves of life.
Holy God - Father of our precious Lord, thank you for
the living water that sustains. Thank you for Jesus. May we depend on you
as our source of life and take great comfort knowing that your stream of
goodness and mercy will never dry up. You are great and mighty and could
easily shelter us from all that life throws our way but in your infinite
wisdom, you strengthen us through the droughts of life. God you always know
what is best and you are always here for me. Help me to quiet all the noise
and to be still and know that you are God. Help me always to hear the babbling
brook of your love. Amen
