2007-01-17 - Life Through Our
Eyes
As Christians, we are in a war almost everyday just sitting around the house.
The entertainment media that comes into our house wages war in our mind.
For guys, it seems to have one message that comes across loud and clear -
"Buy this and you can have sex". OK so that is not the actual words to the
commercials, advertisements and movies but those in the media know that sex
sells products. The imagery they use can be a dangerous temptation for many
people - especially us guys.
Men, you know you are stimulated by sight so you must train yourself to just
look away. Read a book when the beer commercials with those scantily clad
women interrupt the football game. Look away when Victoria shares her secrets
in the middle of the great action show. When the bikini issue comes out of
for your favorite car magazine just skip an issue.
Sure, each of these are just little things but in those little things can
come great victories. When those little battles are won, the war becomes
a bit easier.
I'd like to leave you with a couple verses and a quote from a comedian.
God bless you men on the frontlines (and women).
Philippians 4:8 - Finally, brethren, whatsoever things
are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever
things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good
report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these
things.
2 Corinthians 10:5 - Casting down imaginations, and every
high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing
into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
Don't you wish there were a knob on the TV to turn up the intelligence? There's
one marked "Brightness", but it doesn't work. - Gallagher
