Part 11 - Based On The Apostles Creed
"I believe in the Holy Spirit."
Both the Old and New Testaments teach us about not only the existence but also the vital roles of the Holy Spirit.
We sometimes think of the Holy Spirit as a New Testament entity. But in reality, the Holy Spirit, an integral part of the Triune God that we worship, was around in Old Testament times as well. For example He inspired the writers of the Old Testament books. 2 Peter 2:19-21 teaches us that the Holy Spirit was the actual source of the prophecies such as Isaiah and Jeremiah:
2 Peter 2:19-21 And we have the word of the prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. 20 Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. 21 For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
In addition to the inspiration of the authors of the Scriptures, here is a non-exhaustive list of the Spirit's vital roles.
I recommend that if you want to know more, that you do a word study on the Spirit - and Romans 8 is a treasure trove for such a study.
I hope each of you have a Happy New Year.
