2006-01-13 - Blue Sky Reminder
For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to ruin. Psalm 1:6 (NRS)
As I look outside at the blue sky, I can't help recall a cold wintry day when I was without heat and power. For the Southern state, the sight of snow and ice covering trees wasn't the norm. Through it all, I had to remember what Psalm 1 tells us, God is watching.
Yes it was an inconvenience to bear the slick pavement to find my car beneath a thick wall of ice. Sure it was a hassle to find a temporary place to stay, and to live out of a suitcase. Still, God watched me and helped made things manageable. I knew it was just a matter of time before I would be able to return home to light and warmth. It was not a question of if it will happen, but when it will.
The situation reminded me how fortunate I am to have God looking after me, especially when the basic necessities of this modern world are absent. The friend who let me stay with her later told me if it had not been for the snow, we would not have been able to have that time to spend together. Maybe it wasn't the way I would have expected, but the end result was a blessing.
Lord, Even in dire circumstances, when the only control is Yours, remind me that You have not turned away. You still keep Your perfect eyes on me, watching over all. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
