2004-06-25 - Is There Grace in You?
Colossians 4:5-7 (NIV) Be wise in the way you act toward
outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. 6 Let your
conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may
know how to answer everyone.
I was talking with a good friend the other day about one of the few TV shows
I watch. My favorite character's name is Grace, and thinking of her silliness,
her loyalty to friends, her priorities (relationships) and some of her
idiosyncrasies, I said "there's a lot of Grace in me!" The question popped
into my head, "can that be said of me as a Christian?" As disciples of Christ,
it should be very evident that there is a lot of grace in us.
When someone cuts us off in traffic, is there grace in us - toward that person?
Or do we lay on our horn, make an ugly gesture or blurt out a curse at them?
When a friend tries our patience, is there grace in us? Or do we blow up
at them?
When someone makes a mistake, do we remember that we make them too - is there
grace in us? Or do we insist on talking to their supervisor or lash out at
them?
I encourage you - along with myself - to ask God to help our lives be always
seasoned with grace, even - especially - those who are difficult.
