2003-05-21 - Quotes on Truth
1 Peter 1:22 Since you have in obedience in the truth
purified your souls for the sincere love of the brethren, fervently love
one another from the heart.
From time to time I will be sending out quotes on various topics from writers
of the past or present. To be True means to be faithful, steadfast, or even
firm. It has a Germanic base from the word (treww), but really, since this
is my first of these I thought I would just admit that this is new. It would
also come from the Dutch (Trouw) which means faithful. It also may have roots
to the English (Truce), which actually has origins to the word "tree." All
I can say is "Who gives a rip?" Let's get onto the quotes.
Thomas Adams: "Such is the immutability of truth, the patrons of it make
it not greater, the opposers make it not less; as the splendour of the sun
is not enlarged by them that bless it, nor eclipsed by them that hate it."
William Gurnall: "News may come that Truth is sick, but never that it is
dead."
William Jenkyn: "Truth reforms as well as informs."
John Calvin: "Nothing is deemed more precious by God than truth."
Turtulliam: "The devil tries to shake the truth by pretending to defend it."
Margaret Lee Runbeck: "There is no power on earth more formidable than the
truth."
John Fletcher: "Speak boldly and speak truly. Shame the devil!"
Vance Havner: "Whenever unbelief thinks it has buried the truth, the 'corpse'
always comes to life in the midst of the funeral, to outlive all the
pallbearers."
Thomas Fuller: "Truth fears no trial."
James Bolen: "Truth needs no defense; it is beyond attack."
