2002-09-06 - Payback
Luke 12:48b (NASB) From everyone who has been given much,
much will be required.
I was recently offered a paid position by my "boss" in some volunteer work
I have been doing. My initial reaction was to say no, because one reason
I have worked as a volunteer, is to "give back" for all the blessings I have
been given.
Sometimes we get so mired in thinking about what we "don't have," that we
overlook what we do have. But all of us have blessings, and God intends that
we share them.
Maybe you don't have a happy marriage, but you do have a fulfilling job or
a very healthy body. You can take that body and visit someone in a nursing
home or in the hospital. Perhaps you don't have a huge mansion or a
Mercedes-Benz, but you have an automobile that runs, and you can use it to
give a ride to church, to someone without transportation. Maybe you don't
have your dream job, but you are able to support your family and you can
visit someone unemployed and help him write his resume.
Look at your life. What blessings has God poured out in your life? Now look
around you and see all the people who don't have what you have. I challenge
you to seek out someone this weekend or in the next week, to whom you can
minister. Someone who doesn't have a loving family like you may have, and
needs a listening ear. Someone who doesn't have a car, whom you could drive
to the grocery store. Someone who is very sick, for whom you can use your
healthy body to perform some routine chores around the house. I would love
to hear about your experiences.
