Are you like me sometimes, running hither and yon, constantly doing? All
the activity may be good, God built into us aneed for rest. We need to be
replenished spiritually, emotionally andphysically. Today we will look at
selected Bible passages about rest.
Genesis 2:2-3 (RSV) And on the seventh day God finished
hiswork which he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his
workwhich he had done. So God blessed the seventh day and hallowed it, because
onit God rested from all his work which he had done in creation.
Psalms 62:1 (NIV) My soul finds rest in God alone; mysalvation
comes from him.
Psalms 23:1-3 (RSV) A Psalm of David. The LORD is myshepherd,
I shall not want; he makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me besidestill
waters; he restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness forhis
name's sake.
Isaiah 30:15 (RSV) For thus said the Lord GOD, the Holy
Oneof Israel, & quot;In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness
and intrust shall be your strengthâÆ¦.
Jeremiah 6:16 (RSV) Thus says the LORD: "Stand
by the roads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way
is; and walkin it, and find rest for your souls. But they said, "We will
not walk in it."
Matthew 11:28-29 (RSV) Come to me, all who labor and areheavy
laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn fromme;
for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Matthew 14:13a (RSV) Now when Jesus heard this, he
withdrewfrom there in a boat to a lonely place apart.
