2000-04-30 - God as Creator
Passages about God, Part 1
God used the series on passages about Jesus' roles, to touch many hearts,
so now we will begin one on God's roles. Everywhere we look, there is evidence
of a Creator. When I view the majestically-colored rose-breasted grosbeaks
and indigo buntings in my backyard, I see His touch. I see an Omniscient
Creator's mind at work when I read about the intricate design of our eyes.
Today we will see some passages that show God as our Creator.
God Himself has no beginning or end; He is uncreated.
Rev. 1:8 "I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord
God, "who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty." (NIV)
But He created all things:
Eph. 3:8 Although I am less than the least of all God's
people, this grace was given me: to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable
riches of Christ, 9 and to make plain to everyone the administration of this
mystery, which for ages past was kept hidden in God, who created all things.
(NIV)
Evidence of a Creator is visible, even to nonbelievers:
Rom. 1:18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven
against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth
by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them,
because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world
God's invisible qualitieshis eternal power and divine naturehave
been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men
are without excuse. (NIV)
He is not an aloof Creator, but a loving One, Who provides for all people
and creatures, and we should worship Him for His loving care:
Psa. 147:7 Sing to the LORD with thanksgiving; make music
to our God on the harp. 8 He covers the sky with clouds; he supplies the
earth with rain and makes grass grow on the hills. 9 He provides food for
the cattle and for the young ravens when they call. (NIV)
