Devotional - 99-10-13 - Miracle Baby
Psalm 139:13 (NLT) You made all the delicate, inner parts
of my body and knit me together in my mother's womb.
Isaiah 44:2 (NLT)This is what the LORD says-he who made
you, who formed you in the womb, and who will help you.
They brought the baby to Bible Study the other night -- a smiling, cackling,
bundle of pure joy, a miracle wrapped in a blanket, with a cute little blue
toboggan on his cuddly pink head. Ah, the smell of a newborn -- no other
smell on earth seems purer or brings more joy to my heart. We passed the
baby boy around the room from person to person, each holding him and cooing
at him, each expressing our happiness for the mom and dad, and each expressing
our thanks to God. All babies are miracles, but this child that I was holding
was a very special miracle. Listen to the story of how this child beat the
odds and now will grow up in a Christian home, loved by parents who have
surrounded themselves with other Christians to pray for them, guide them
and hold them accountable as they raise this child.
Statistically, this child should not exist. Why? He was born to an unwed
teenage mother. The father is a teenager. Both are young and full of love
for each other, but not very smart about their sexuality. By the grace of
God, the girl's parents loved her and supported her throughout her pregnancy.
They did not condone her actions, but they did not stop loving her. Their
unconditional love for her spilled over into her heart. These Christ-following
parents did what Christ does and commands us to do: Love God; love people.
Through love, this child did not become another number on a chart of abortions;
he became a child.
That unwed teenage mom and dad did the most loving act for that child that
anyone will ever do; they gave him life and then they gave him up. They gave
him up to Christian parents in their early 30's, who enjoy good jobs and
a stable environment. They gave their child to a couple who has tried for
years in every manner to have a child. They gave him up to a couple who will
raise this child up just like their parents did.
As I was handing the baby boy back to my friends, I just stared in wonderment
and a tear rolled down my cheek, as I was thinking, "there may be unwanted
pregnancies, but there can't be any unwanted babies." If you are unmarried,
pregnant and scared now, reach out and tell someone. Don't give up until
you find someone to help you; there are people out there who will be glad
to help you and your baby.
These devotionals go out to over 2,300 people and only a handful of you know
me, so I want to end on this note. If you have ever had an abortion, I cannot
imagine the pain and agony that you have been through and probably go through.
My heart aches for you. Most importantly I want you know that Jesus died
for you just as He did for me, and He loves you just as much as He loves
me.
Romans 8:1,2,34 (NLT) So now there is no condemnation
for those who belong to Christ Jesus. For the power of the life-giving Spirit
has freed you through Christ Jesus from the power of sin that leads to death.
Who then will condemn us? Will Christ Jesus? No, for he is the one who died
for us and was raised to life for us and is sitting at the place of highest
honor next to God, pleading for us.
Father, help us to love our children unconditionally. Help us to pass on
the values that You have laid out for us. In Christ's name, Amen.
