Devotional - 99-10-12 - Port's Faithful Shepherd, Chapter
6
Psalm 56:11 In God I have put my trust, I shall not be
afraid. What can man do to me?
"Get your heart strongly fixed on God, by trusting in Him, Psalm 112:7, and
submitting to Him, 1 Samuel 3:18, against all the fears, cares, double trials,
and afflictions of every day, for sufficient to the day is the evil thereof,
Matthew 6:34. This must be done five ways.
-
Be prudent to foresee your personal trials and troubles, whatever they are
like to be, Proverbs 22:3.
-
Go hide and lay up yourself in God, run unto his name, for God is a place
of refuge, to which a poor soul may continually resort. God will give the
command to save us, Psalm 71:3, 1 Peter 4:19.
-
Especially commit every trouble to God, put it into His hands, whatsoever
you desire to keep or fear to loose, 1 Timothy 1:12, be it life, liberty,
name, friends, maintenance, or whatever. Whatever you would have to be resolved
if it be a doubt, Psalm 37:5, or supplied if it be a want, removed if it
be a cross, Psalm 50:15, and regarding the things that must worry you; fear,
sorrow, and trouble of mind about them, commit them wholly upon the Lord,
Matthew 6:31, 1 Peter 5:7, Psalm 55:22.
-
Renew your faith in those promises every day, which most concern your present
state, As:
-
In promises of supplies if you be in need, Psalm 34:8, 37:3, 84:11, Matthew 6:30.
-
Of direction if you are in doubts, James 1:5.
-
Of deliverance if you are in trouble, Job 5:19. Of a good end and faithful
use of all, Deuteronomy 8:16, James 5:11,
Romans 8:28, Hebrews 12:10.
-
Lastly, labor to see God's hand, Psalm 34:9, believe God's love, Hebrews
12:6, Revelation 3:19, and with all meekness and patience to resign up yourself
wholly to God's will in every affliction, Matthew 21:39." Robert Port
