Devotional - 99-09-12 - Passages about
Evangelism
Sometimes we seem to have the inaccurate idea that evangelism is the domain
of ministers and professional evangelists; however, we all have a role to
play in spreading the Gospel.
Rom 10:13-15 (NNAS) For "WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME
OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED." How then will they call on Him in whom they have
not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And
how will they hear without a preacher? How will they preach unless they are
sent? Just as it is written, "HOW BEAUTIFUL ARE THE FEET OF THOSE WHO BRING
GOOD NEWS OF GOOD THINGS!"
Phil 1:3-5 (NNAS) I thank my God in all my remembrance
of you, always offering prayer with joy in my every prayer for you all, in
view of your participation in the gospel from the first day until now.
God does call gift some people specifically in the area of evangelism, and
a responsibility to share the Good News accompanies the gift:
Eph 4:11-12 (NNAS) And He gave some as apostles, and some
as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, for
the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of
the body of Christ."
Mat 28:19-20 (NNAS) Go therefore and make disciples of
all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and
the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo,
I am with you always, even to the end of the age.
Isa 52:7 (NNAS) How lovely on the mountains Are the feet
of him who brings good news, Who announces peace And brings good news of
happiness, Who announces salvation, And says to Zion, "Your God reigns!"
However, all of us should share what God has done for us:
Psa 96:2 (NNAS) Sing to the LORD, bless His name; Proclaim
good tidings of His salvation from day to day.
1 Pet 3:15 (NNAS) But sanctify Christ as Lord in your
hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to
give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and
reverence.
Luke 8:38 (NNAS) But the man from whom the demons had
gone out was begging Him that he might accompany Him; but He sent him away,
saying "Return to your house and describe what great things God has done
for you." So he went away, proclaiming throughout the whole city what great
things Jesus had done for him.
