[PC-USA] 1999-04-18 - "I Am" Passages

- - - - - - -

There is no way to write a completely definitive devotional on Who and What Jesus are. However, today we will see several of His "I am" statements that help to express His identity and mission.

Mat 11:29-30 (NNAS) "Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."

Luke 22:27 (NNAS) ""For who is greater, the one who reclines at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at the table? But I am among you as the one who serves."

Luke 22:70 (NNAS) "And they all said, "Are You the Son of God, then?" And He said to them, "Yes, I am."

John 6:35 (NNAS) "Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst."

John 8:12 (NNAS) "Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, "I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life."

John 8:23 (NNAS) "And He was saying to them, "You are from below, I am from above; you are of this world, I am not of this world."

John 10:7-9 (NNAS) "So Jesus said to them again, "Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All who came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture."

John 10:14-15 (NNAS) "I am the good shepherd, and I know My own and My own know Me, even as the Father knows Me and I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep."

John 11:25-26 (NNAS) "Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?"

John 14:6 (NNAS) "Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me."

John 11:11 (NNAS) "This He said, and after that He said to them, "Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; but I go, so that I may awaken him out of sleep.""

John 15:1-2 (NNAS) ""I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He prunes it so that it may bear more fruit."
