1999-04-04 - Passages about the Resurrection
Resurrection Day - 1999
In most verses, resurrection is "anastasias," which means "a rising up." Jesus rose up from the grave. He had overcome sin and death. We too can rise up and overcome. If we have believed in and accepted Christ's sacrifice for our sins, we will be resurrected from physical death. But God can also bring "resurrections" out of the painful events of our lives. A well-known example would be Chuck Colson. He would never have chosen an experience of imprisonment, but out of that rose up a new life for him, a new set of priorities, a new ultimate "boss," a new ministry that has immeasurably blessed prisoners and their families. Think about the painful circumstances of your life, and ask God to help you see them through His eyes. Ask Him to use them for a "resurrection" experience. I pray you all have a Blessed Easter!
John 20:12-18 (NNAS) And she saw two angels in white sitting, one at the head and one at the feet, where the body of Jesus had been lying. And they said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping?" She said to them, "Because they have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid Him." When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, and did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?" Supposing Him to be the gardener, she said to Him, "Sir, if you have carried Him away, tell me where you have laid Him, and I will take Him away." Jesus said to her, "Mary!" She turned and said to Him in Hebrew, "Rabboni! (which means, Teacher).
Jesus AS the Resurrection
John 11:25-26 (NNAS)"Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?"
A "Resurrection Experience" Out of Famine and the Death of Spouses
Ruth 4:13-17 (NNAS) So Boaz took Ruth, and she became his wife, and he went in to her. And the LORD enabled her to conceive, and she gave birth to a son. Then the women said to Naomi, "Blessed is the LORD who has not left you without a redeemer today, and may his name become famous in Israel." May he also be to you a restorer of life and a sustainer of your old age; for your daughter-in-law, who loves you and is better to you than seven sons, has given birth to him. Then Naomi took the child and laid him in her lap, and became his nurse. The neighbor women gave him a name, saying, "A son has been born to Naomi!" So they named him Obed. He is the father of Jesse, the father of David.
