Devotional - 98-11-04 - Ultimate
Authority
Encore from 96-11-06
Romans 13:1-3 Everyone must submit himself to the governing
authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established.
The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2
Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what
God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.
3 For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those
who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then
do what is right and he will commend you.
Well folks the election is over and life goes on. Whether your person won
or not, the bible is very clear that we should accept and pray for them.
Yesterday it occurred to me that up in Washington the politicians can start
new spending programs, build new buildings, create new laws, ban this
and that, they can start wars, drop bombs, fly to the moon, and just
about anything they wish to do. But, there is one big piece missing from
their authority. They can not change one single human heart, only God can
change hearts. It is comforting to me to know that our God is the ultimate
authority. The Church is the Hope of this country and this world. You know
what else? We are the church. It is up to you and I as members of the Body
of Christ to help advance the Cause of Christ. We need to be bolder and more
deliberate in reaching out to the unchurched people we come in contact with.
Build relationships with people at work, at school, in your neighborhood
that do not know Christ. Build relationships and earn the right to proclaim
the Gospel to those folks that surround you. Matthew 28:18 Then Jesus came
to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to
me.
Luke 4:32 They were amazed at his teaching, because his
message had authority.
Exodus 15:18 The LORD will reign for ever and ever."
Psalm 29:10 The LORD sits enthroned over the flood; the
LORD is enthroned as King forever.
Psalm 93:1 The LORD reigns, he is robed in majesty; the
LORD is robed in majesty and is armed with strength. The world is firmly
established; it cannot be moved.
Psalm 146:10 The LORD reigns forever, your God, O Zion,
for all generations. Praise the LORD.
Daniel 4:34 At the end of that time, I, Nebuchadnezzar,
raised my eyes toward heaven, and my sanity was restored. Then I praised
the Most High; I honored and glorified him who lives forever. His dominion
is an eternal dominion; his kingdom endures from generation to generation.
Dear Father, we are so thankful that YOU are the ultimate
authority. Lord help us as members of the Body of Christ to be more deliberate
and bolder in advancing the Cause of Christ. Lord, thank you for reminding
us today that the Church is the Hope of the world. In Jesus Name, Amen.
David
