Jeremiah 44:4 (NIV) Again and again, I sent my servants the prophets, who said, ‘Do not do this detestable thing that I hate!‘ But they did not listen or pay attention; they did not turn from their wickedness...
Recently, the remnants of a hurricane came through our state. Heavy rain produced flash flooding. Roads were quickly covered in water. Barricades were placed to block people from driving through deep water on the streets. You would think this would keep people out of the dangerous areas. Some people, nevertheless, ignored the warnings and drove around the barriers. These people became stranded in high waters and had to be rescued, risking not only their own safety but also that of their rescuers, the firefighters and police officers who ended up saving lives.
In the last days of the kingdom of Judah, God also sent prophets to warn the people to change their ways. Danger was approaching if they didn‘t listen. Jeremiah confronted the leaders of Judah but they wouldn‘t listen. The nation was eventually led in exile to Babylon.
Do we Christians pay attention to God‘s warnings today? Do we follow His instructions that we find in the Bible? Do we listen to our pastors and teachers?
As Christians, let us resolve to listen and act.
