[CF Devotionals] 2020-06-13 - Elijah

1 Kings 18:44 (NIV) So Elijah said, ”Go and tell Ahab, ’Hitch up your chariot and go down before the rain stops you.‘ ”

1 Kings 18:46 (NIV) The power of the LORD came upon Elijah and, tucking his cloak into his belt, he ran ahead of Ahab all the way to Jezreel.

Elijah had just demonstrated God‘s presence and power to King Ahab and the people of Israel, by offering a sacrifice to the Lord. Elijah had called on God to lift His judgement against Israel by ending the long drought.

Elijah then warned King Ahab to set out in his speedy chariot before the rain made the roads impassable. Then something unusual happened. Elijah started running, and he outran Ahab‘s chariot! How did he do this? Elijah was empowered by God. He was able to run faster than a horse drawn chariot.

We can learn from Elijah. How does his story apply to us today? When we pray to God for His help, He will empower us to do things we otherwise could not, and to do them in His name.

Today, ask God to empower you and others to do big things for Him.
