2020-04-22 - Let's Stay Together
The aforementioned words are the title to a song written by Al Green (along with Willie Mitchell and Al Jackson Junior Let's Stay Together and released in 1972. Unconditional love is the topic, and the line from it that rolls through my mind a lot is, ”…. lovin’ you whether, whether, times are good, bad, happy or sad. Good, bad, happy, or sad.“ During this time of unforeseen continual togetherness away from crowds, perhaps we can focus on those things that are most important to us and even once had us wishing for more time to just be together away from the world. Nothing has quite the smooth and soulful sound as Al singing his song. Although he is subject to the same human imperfections as are we all the gift of song is unmistakable, and the words can be translated to the lives of any of us - each in our own way. I have found the gift of more togetherness, as my husband has had to be sequestered away from his job as a High School Automotive Repair instructor. The kids have come to appreciate freedom of movement they are currently missing out on, the value of the time in the classroom, as well as the shop where they get to put in to practice what they have absorbed into repairing vehicles. Maybe they will determine more about themselves in this unusually long break, and come back better equipped to be part of the team with consistency. (Miracles still happen!)
There are aspects of staying together that go beyond personal relationships and move into the area of community, whether we are in a virtual forum or a physical one. We can choose to take the time to make the most of our situation, or we can see it as a curse and complain. It’s our choice. We can fight every step of the way against something we have little control over, or we can figure out a way to better ourselves and our minds, as we wait and pray. ”Whether times are good, bad, happy, or sad.“ Our view of our world is mainly in our own hands. The strength to endure and appreciate each part of it can be something we put into God’s hands. He’s ready, willing, and able - and I’m sure He agrees, ”Let’s, we ought to stay together. Loving you whether, whether times are good, bad, happy or sad.“ I’ve read the end of His book. It’s all good news.
”And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.“ (Romans 8:28 KJV)
