2020-04-11 - Good Friday
Mark 15:21–A certain man from Cyrene, Simon, the father of Alexander and Rufus, was passing by on his way in from the country, and they forced him to carry the cross.
Today is called Good Friday–the day Jesus was crucified on the cross. We are reminded of the pain and suffering that Jesus went through on that day. Jesus knew what faced him that awful day.
Mark tells us of a man who didn’t know what was going to happen to him on that Good Friday. Simon from Cyrene was probably in Jerusalem to celebrate the Jewish Passover (which you can watch live if you get Jewish Life TV on your system). Simon was “passing by,“ when the Roman soldiers forced him to carry Jesus’ cross.
Did Simon know about Jesus? Had he heard of Jesus? What must Simon have thought, when he was pressed into service? He must have seen Jesus’ agony.
We don’t know what happened to Simon, right after he carried Jesus’ cross. He probably saw Jesus crucified. And Simon would later have heard of Jesus’ resurrection, too. I imagine that his life changed as a result. How did it affect his everyday life, and the rest of his earthly life?
Has your life changed from an encounter with Jesus? Are you walking with Him?
