2020-03-14 - Fear
Isaiah 41:10 (NIV) So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
The recent outbreak of the Coronavirus has resulted in much media publicity. You can‘t watch television, listen to the radio, or check the internet without constantly being told how serious the situation is and how many cases there are. Nver before have they reported on every single case of an illness as they are now so naturally fear is increasing with each broadcast. Even though far fewer people are dying from this than from the annual flus, people are reacting by flooding supermarkets and cleaning off the shelves. They are buying items that they need but also many items that are much less necessary. Fear has taken hold of many. Yet some people remain calm.
What does the Bible say about fear? In Isaiah 41:10, God reminds His people that He is with them. God tells them that He will hold them up and strengthen them. No matter our circumstances, God is with us. He does not want us to panic. Instead, God wants us to pray and to lean on His strength.
Over 100 times, the Bible tells us to not fear, for a good reason. During this time of fear, let us turn to God for strength, wisdom, and support.
